Yachthafen Lohme

Yachthafen Lohme nestles at the foot of the wooded chalk cliffs at the wild northern tip of Rügen, with an open view across the Tromper Wiek toward the lighthouse at Cape Arkona. Coming in from sea, you first see the white edges of the Stubnitz ridge before the narrow harbour entrance – barely twenty metres wide – suddenly opens between the heavy stone moles. Inside, an unexpectedly southern-looking basin of clear water spreads out, framed by steep wooded slopes on every side.

With around fifty berths for yachts up to seventeen metres in length and up to three metres of water, Lohme is compact but well equipped. Visitors usually moor along the north and south pier in the eastern part of the harbour. Electricity and water are included in the mooring fee; toilets, showers, WiFi and a small diesel pump are all on site. A narrow stairway climbs from the quay up through the village to the cliff edge, to the harbour restaurant and to the famous viewing terrace above the chalk coast.

The season runs from April to October. The harbourmaster's office is staffed in the morning and evening; otherwise the crew can be reached on VHF channel 15. In strong northerly to north-westerly winds the entrance gets unpleasant quickly, so Glowe or Sassnitz are good backups. But pick the right day and Lohme is one of the most atmospheric harbours on the southern Baltic – with sunsets that regularly draw photographers from across Germany down to the pier.
