NorDok is a digital marina guide that brings together practical information about marinas and slipways in the Nordic countries and the surrounding waters.
The platform was built to make it easier for sailors to find, research and compare marinas across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany and other relevant destinations. Instead of hunting through a long list of separate websites, you can use NorDok as a single starting point when you plan your next trip.
On NorDok you can find things like the marina's location, facilities, depth, contact details, prices, photos and relevant links. Depending on the individual marina, there may also be reviews, news and other practical information to help you judge whether the marina suits your boat, your crew and your planned route.
NorDok is free to use for sailors. It is also free for marinas to claim their profile and keep the most important information up to date themselves.
Why NorDok was built
Information about marinas is often scattered across municipal websites, sailing club pages, social media, harbour overviews and older documents.
Some marinas have extensive websites, while others only have a small amount of information available. Details about prices, facilities, contact people and visitor berths can be hard to track down — especially when you are sailing in another country or need to check several possible marinas quickly.
That makes planning more troublesome than it needs to be.
NorDok was built to gather the information in one consistent, easy-to-read structure. The goal is not to replace the marinas' own websites, official sea charts or maritime warnings. The goal is to give sailors a better first overview and make it easier to find the right marina and its official information.
A marina guide should be more than a collection of markers on a map. It should let you research the marinas, compare the options and find the details that matter before and during a trip.
Practical information in one place
NorDok is built around the information you typically need when you are looking into a new marina.
That can include things such as:
- The marina's location and address
- Contact details and official links
- Water depth and relevant boat measurements
- Number of berths and information about visitor berths
- Prices and payment options
- Toilets, showers and laundry facilities
- Electricity and fresh water
- Fuel and holding-tank pump-out
- Crane, slip, workshop and other technical facilities
- Restaurant, shops and provisioning
- Wi-Fi, parking and public transport
- Playground and other family-friendly facilities
- Photos of the marina and the surrounding area
- Reviews and experiences from other sailors
Not every marina has all of this recorded. The dataset is therefore being extended and improved over time — as the marinas update their own profiles and as users send in corrections and additional information.
Built for sailing across borders
Sailors rarely plan their trips around national borders.
A Danish sailor might set off from a local marina and continue on to the Swedish west coast, the Norwegian archipelago or a German harbour. In the same way, Swedish, Norwegian and German sailors need easy access to information when they visit Danish waters.
NorDok is therefore built as a multilingual platform with information about marinas across several countries. It is available in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, German and English, so both local and visiting sailors can use the same tool.
The shared structure makes it easier to compare marinas, even when their own websites, terminology and ways of presenting information differ widely.
NorDok covers both large marinas with plenty of facilities and smaller marinas, club harbours and local sites. That lets sailors find both well-known destinations and smaller marinas that might otherwise be difficult to discover.
A tool before and during the trip
NorDok can be used both from home and while you are underway.
Before the trip you can look into marinas along your expected route, compare facilities and find possible alternatives. While sailing you can quickly pull up a marina and find its contact details, location, photos and links to the marina's own channels.
The platform can be used for things like:

- Researching marinas along a particular coast or route
- Finding alternative marinas when the weather or your plans change
- Comparing facilities across several marinas

NorDok also includes news, maritime information and practical tools for sailors. That covers conversions for nautical miles, knots, wind strength, temperature and boat measurements.
Marinas can keep their own information up to date
A marina guide is only useful if the information reflects reality as closely as possible.
Marinas change over time. Prices are adjusted, contact people move on, facilities are added or removed, and visitor berths can be moved. That is why NorDok is not meant to be a static register where information is only collected once.
Every marina can claim its existing NorDok profile free of charge.
Once a marina has claimed its profile, it can maintain contact details, description, facilities, prices, boat measurements and photos itself. That gives the marina control over the information sailors see, while giving users a more reliable basis for their planning.
Keeping the marina's core details up to date does not require a paid subscription. The basic profile and the ability to manage the information yourself are free.
Marinas that want more visibility and additional ways to communicate can choose an extended Premium profile. Premium is an add-on, not a requirement for being listed or for updating the basic details.
Sailors can help build a better overview
Even with a rich dataset and direct input from the marinas, information can change without being registered straight away.
That is why users can also contribute.
If you spot a wrong email address, a facility that no longer exists, a missing marina or other inaccuracies, you can send a correction directly to NorDok. You can also contribute photos and reviews to help other sailors get a better sense of the marina.
Submissions are reviewed before they are used. That matters, because marinas can have different access arrangements. Some are open to the public, while others are private club harbours or facilities with restricted access.
NorDok therefore works with structured data, information from the marinas and contributions from users. That gives a better basis for spotting mistakes, gaps and changes over time.
Data quality and safe sailing
NorDok is meant to make it easier to find and compare marinas, but the platform cannot stand on its own when it comes to navigational decisions.
Depths, entrance conditions, buoyage, bridge openings, visitor berths and other conditions can change. Heavy weather, storm damage, silting, construction work and local restrictions can all mean that previously recorded information is no longer correct.
NorDok therefore does not replace:
- Official sea charts
- Notices to mariners
- Weather forecasts and marine warnings
- The harbourmaster's instructions
- The marina's own current information
- Good seamanship and responsible navigation
Critical information should always be checked with the marina or in the relevant official sources before you sail in.
NorDok is best seen as a practical planning aid and a gateway to further information — not as a navigation system or a guarantee of current local conditions.

NorDok is developed and run by Mickey Liechtenstein, a freelance digital consultant from Funen (see mickeyr.dk).
Mickey works on digital platforms, websites, webshops, integrations, automation and data-driven solutions. NorDok is built as an independent Danish project, where the technical platform, the data model, the search features, the multilingual pages and the marinas' admin tools are all parts of one coherent solution.
The project grew out of a concrete observation: there is a great deal of information about marinas out there, but it is often scattered, inconsistent or hard to keep current.
NorDok tries to solve that with a shared structure, where sailors can find information more easily and marinas can take responsibility for their own profile.
Because NorDok is developed and run independently, feedback from sailors and marinas can feed directly into its further development. New features are prioritised based on real needs and experiences from the people who actually use the platform.
A platform under continuous development
NorDok is not a finished catalogue.
The platform is being extended over time with more marinas, better data quality and new features. The long-term goal is to build a practical digital hub for recreational sailors and marinas in the Nordic region.
Development covers things like better search and filtering, more tools for sailors, more direct communication between marinas and guests, and better tools for marinas to manage their digital presence.
Development should happen without making the solution unnecessarily complicated. Above all, NorDok should be fast, clear and useful — both on a computer at home and on a phone on board.
