Sportboothafen Plüschowbecken / Schwentineflotte e.V.

Sportboothafen Plüschowbecken is the home of Schwentineflotte e.V., an unusual harbour community whose members have their primary residence on board. The fleet originally lay from the 1970s onwards at the Geomar quay by the Seefischmarkt at the Schwentine river mouth; when the Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research needed those berths for its own research vessels, the city and the association agreed in the early 1990s on a move to the Plüschow basin near Friedrichsort.

The club harbour today sits very well sheltered west of the Stickenhörn mole and consists of two short pontoons. The approach is straightforward in any weather, even under sail, and there is plenty of room in the basin to manoeuvre and stow sails before the pontoons. Visitors are explicitly welcome; shore power and fresh water are run to the berths, with sanitary facilities ashore.

The setting is secluded – shopping involves a longer walk – but in return you get quiet and direct access to the northern Kiel Fjord. Stickenhörn and the Friedrichsort lighthouse are a few hundred metres away, and the inner fjord with Kiel-Holtenau and the lock into the Kiel Canal is half an hour away under sail.
