Klädesholmens Västra hamn

Klädesholmens Västra Hamn lies on the west side of the small island of Klädesholmen, just south of Tjörn in southern Bohuslän. It is one of the most distinctive guest harbours on the Swedish west coast – not because it is large, it is deliberately small, but because the island around it was built on herring. The great herring period of 1748–1808 laid the foundations of the community, and Klädesholmen Seafood today produces more than half of all Swedish pickled herring. Every 6 June the island celebrates 'Sillens dag', herring day.

The basin is bowl-shaped and worked with fixed lines and booms – among the most wind-protected guest harbours in the area. Depth runs 3–4 metres, and there are around 50 guest berths, five of which can be pre-booked through Dockspot. The harbour office is open 1 May to 31 August, daily from noon to 18:00. Power (6 A) is included in the price; toilets, showers and fresh water are at the harbour office. A sauna run by the local sauna association sits next to the harbour, and the island's east side has a sandy beach.

The gastronomic draw is Salt & Sill, the floating restaurant and hotel of the same name that has made Klädesholmen known across Scandinavia for its herring 'plank' and its sea-driven kitchen. Kylen Krog & Bar opens in the summer season. Klädesholmens Västra Hamnförening was founded in 2003 when Tjörn municipality transferred non-commercial harbour operations to local associations, and the lease runs to 2032 – so the volunteer-driven upkeep of docks and infrastructure remains the foundation of what a guest sees at the gate.
