Brekstad Gjestehavn
Visitor pontoons in two basins — Sør-havna and Nord-havna — within the same mole-sheltered harbour in central Brekstad. Heavy scheduled traffic, and a tide approaching three metres.

Description
Brekstad Gjestehavn lies at the mouth of the Trondheim Fjord and the entrance to the Stjørnfjord, on the north-western side — the Fosen peninsula — directly opposite Agdenes. The harbour is owned and run jointly by two boat clubs, Brekstad Båtklubb and Nordhavna Båteierlag, and the visitor pontoons sit in two separate basins within the same mole-sheltered harbour: Sør-havna and Nord-havna.
The Sørhavna visitor pier runs east from the shore by the Ørland culture centre. The sanitary facilities — toilet, shower, washing machine and tumble dryer — are in a white container by the entrance to the culture centre, some seventy metres away. The Nordhavna floating pontoons lie inside the north mole. Payment is made on arrival rather than departure, and the charging day begins at noon. A day visit to Brekstad within shop opening hours is free, unless you use electricity.
The harbour entrance faces south-east and is marked by two mole lights, quick red on the south mole and green on the north. The Norwegian Coastal Administration gives 5.4 metres as the governing depth in the approach, with a 2.3-metre shoal west of the ferry quay. The harbour carries heavy scheduled traffic: the fast ferry to Trondheim and the car ferry to Valset both run from here with seventeen departures each way daily, and their wash is felt at the pontoons.
The tide is something Danish and Swedish sailors should plan for here. The Norwegian Mapping Authority computes Brekstad from the Heimsjøen reference station, and the spring range approaches three metres — far more than in the Kattegat or the Baltic. Boats over fifty feet need permission from the board, and any restrictions depend on the weather. Larger vessels are referred to Ørland municipality, which runs the commercial quays.
Brekstad became a town in 2005 and is the administrative centre of Ørland municipality, formed when Ørland and Bjugn merged in 2020. A harbour of some kind has existed here for centuries — a royal posting station in the 1600s, an inn from around 1720, a first quay in 1860 — but it took its present shape after the Storting approved harbour works in 1965 and the moles were built. The Valset ferry link opened in 1977. In the autumn of 2020 the waterfront facing the hotel and the culture centre was thoroughly rebuilt.
In the bay immediately west of the harbour lies Hovsfjæra, part of the Ørland wetland system, a Ramsar site since 1985. The Grandefjæra nature reserve further west is the county's largest tidal and shallow-water area, with bird towers, and 235 bird species have been recorded across the system. The Renaissance manor of Austrått, from the 1650s, stands a few kilometres to the south-west, with the Austrått woodland and a German coastal fort holding one of the triple turrets from the battlecruiser Gneisenau — the only one of its kind preserved. North-west of the town lies Ørland air station, the main Norwegian F-35 base.
